3 Day Detox Diet

Why Detox?

Detox diets are used to help the body remove toxins and poisons that it has accumulated. The body faces toxins everyday in pollution, cigarette smoke, food additives, alcohol, caffeine, etc. The motivation behind 3 day detox diets is to promote better health and vitality.

With detox diets there is controversy, because any diet with severe food restrictions for a prolonged period of time will result in loss of essential nutrients for the body. It is important to consult a health care professional if you consider using a detox diet- even if it is only for 3 days.

3 Day Detox Diet Examples

The most extreme 3 day detox diet is one in which an individual consumes only water for 3 consecutive days. Before beginning a detox diet it is important to be very specific in choosing which day to begin the diet. This is to ensure the diet occurs on restful days. For example, you should begin your detox diet on Friday, if you work Monday through Friday. This will allow you to relax at home during the course of your detox. Rest is an important aspect of the detox diet. You should refrain from any high levels of activity, because most people feel a significant lack of energy while on a detox diet.

If the 3 day water diet is too drastic for you, you can try a mono-trophic diet. In this 3 day detox diet one type of fruit is consumed for each meal. The fruit is consumed until hunger is satisfied. Also, during the 3 days, you should only drink water or freshly pressed fruit juice. You can also drink 12 oz. of freshly pressed carrot juice at 4 pm each day. Here is an example of one day on the mono-trophic detox diet:

Breakfast: Oranges
Lunch: Apples
4 pm: 12 oz. of Carrot Juice
Dinner: Watermelon

After the 3 Day Detox Diet

After the 3 day detox diet it will be important to stick to a healthy and balanced diet plan, complimented by an exercise routine for yourself. A healthy lifestyle is far more effective for long term health, than any short term diet plan. You can consult your health care professional to assist you in developing an optimal long term diet plan for yourself.
